Thank you for writing a question. The biggest challenge I face is thinking I’m writing material which no one sees or reads, so receiving a question is great. I am behind on my website blogs as I’ve focused on my monthly newsletters instead. But I know it’s an area I need to work on.
In terms of clearing my head in readiness to write, I’m a plotter in my approach, so I take time specifically to think about the story and how it will develop, then I start breaking it down into chapters with some content on each. Then I’ll start at the beginning and complete each chapter. However, while writing, sometimes I’ll have an idea and the story which I’d plotted evolves further. Hence when it comes to the writing part, I already know what I’m going to write (give or take). In terms of creativity, some of my best ideas come to me when I’m in the garden mowing the grass or picking out the weeds. I do have to stop what I’m doing and get them written down before I forget them.
Some writers are pantsers, i.e. they write by the seat of their pants and don’t plot the story out in advance. Instead, they start and go where the story takes them as they write.

I hope this helps.
